At the cook off, the competitors were divided into teams – each with a professional chef – and allocated to a cooking station where they were provided with a mystery basket containing the ingredients which had to be used to prepare a three course meal. For two hours, onlookers could feel the heat as guests cooked up a storm, trying to impress the judges with their skills. White Star Quick had to be included in every dish, even the dessert. “By putting a completely new spin on how to use maize meal, White Star again demonstrated that it is a versatile brand that can fit into our consumers’ busy and modern lifestyles. The cook-off has shown that White Star has earned its own star status,” adds Makhothi.
Celebrity guests included Tsholofelo Monedi, Zizo Beda, Pallance Dladla,Lucia Mthiyane,Zenande Mfenyane, Mandla Gaduka, Kelly Khumalo and Proverb while the professional chefs in attendance were Chef Andrew and Chef Mokgadi Itsweng..
After an exhilarating competition, guests celebrated at the Pantsula/Sophiatown themed awards evening held at the resort’s The Shebeen, with entertainment by DJ Glen Lewis. “Whether a celebrity, professional chef or invited guest, White Star has once again proven that it is the clever choice, no matter who you are,” concludes Makhothi.
