2018/19 Absa Premiership set to start…but

THE 2018/19 Absa Premiership season kicks-off on August 4 with six matches taking place at different venues across the country, and that is if the Premier Soccer League (PSL) wins it appeal at the Johannesburg High Court against Ajax Cape Town who have taken them to court after the club was automatically relegated via a boardroom decision, Writes NGOAKO MACHETHE.
Although the main focus will be at the Loftus Stadium in Tshwane where league defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns welcome Kaizer Chiefs, the Limpopo derby involving new comers and Polokwane City at the Peter Mokaba stadium is expected to draw masses.
Leopards are back in the top flight after spending four season in the football doldrums in the National First Division,
Lidoda Duvha are still motivated after they lifted the inaugural Limpopo Soccer Legacy Cup over the past weekend. The four-clubs competition at the Giyani Stadium involved the province’s four clubs that include Baroka FC, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivandela and Ndengeza FC from the NFD and ABC Motsepe League respectively.
Back to the Sundowns-Chiefs match, it is an open secret that the visiting Glamour Boys will be looking for a revenge after the latter lost 2-1 to the Brazilians in the inaugural Shell Helix Ultra Cup played at the FNB Stadium last Saturday.
The rest of 2018/19 season’s opening matches are:
Saturday, August 4: Bidvest Wits v Free State Stars, Cape Town City v SuperSport United, Orlando Pirates v Highlands Park, Amazulu v Baroka.
Sunday, August 4: Maritzburg United v Golden Arrows, Bloemfontein Celtic v Chippa United.
Meanwhile the league has also confirmed that the season will end on May 18 with the final match of the Nedbank Cup.
