Absa Premiership resume to action with a bang

THULASIZWE Mbuyane’s early goal was enough to sent Black Leopards to the basement of the Absa Premiership log.

Despite this hard-fought 1-0 victory over the disjointed Lidoda Duvha, the mighty Buccaneers couldn’t improve their position on the log as they remain in the fifth position with 27 points.

The eight weeks break has proved to have badly affected the players as most of them from either sides in this match were occasionally treated for muscle pulls climb.

Pirates fans had to wait until the 88th minutes to see their new international signee, Luis Boa Morte in action. This after he came in as a replacement for Mbuyane, and the hard-running star proved that he has a lot to offer for the Soweto giants.

The results sees Leopards take one step down to the bottom of the log with 10 points after Jomo Cosmos played to a 1-1 draw against Kaizer Chiefs at the Nelson Mandela Bay in Port Elizabeth to move to the 15th position.

Elsewhere, Mamelodi Sundowns maintained their lead on the log when they beat AmaZulu 1-0 away. The Brazilians are now topping the league log with 34 points, and they are now five points clear of rivals, SuperSport United who played to a 1-1 draw against the visiting Free State Stars at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.

Also trailing behind Sundowns with five points includes Moroka Swallows and Free State Stars. Swallows beat Santos 3-2 at the Dobsonville Stadium in another match played last night.

In total, 18 goals were scored in these matches played last night with the highest goals scored at the Swallows-Santos and Celtic-Arrows matches producing 10 goals
