THE race for the Absa Premiership title hots up on Friday, January 14 when Ajax Cape Town and Kaizer Chiefs take each other in the top-of-the table clash. Kick-Off at the Cape Town Stadium is 8.45pm.
With the Premier Soccer League (PSL) having given a thump up for a double header on the day which will also see rookies, Vasco da Gama taking on the troubled SuperSport United earlier on at 6pm, this is undoubtedly going to be a good night full of fun and action galore for the fans in the Mother City.
Back to the main match involving Ajax and Chiefs- it is evident that this is not going to be more than a game as both sides are desperate for the three points at stake to improve their positions on the log.
The home side are on the third position with 24 points, two points behind Chiefs (second placed) and three points behind log leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns and victory in their own back-yard could mean a lot to them.
As for Chiefs, the maximum points will see them temporarly frog-jump the Brazilians to the top of the log while crossing their fingers that the Tshwane-based side loses theirs at home against the visiting Maritzburg United on Saturday evening.
Although Chiefs coach, Vladimir Vermezovic will have to make do without the services of Valery Nahayo and Siphiwe Tshabalala, he was confident that he has sufficient depth in the squad to overcome the absence of two of the club’s most influential players and that the result against Sundowns has fortified their belief in their title aspirations.
As the Chiefs fans showed at Soccer City on Saturday, the efforts of the fans can push the players on the pitch to go the extra mile to achieve glory. Fittingly, as the nation’s number one Greatest Supporter of South African Supporters, Vodacom are fuelling the anticipation of the big match with a series of activations to gather up a wave of enthusiasm that will build to a crescendo on Friday evening.
To get the ball rolling, Vodacom are running a pre-awareness SMS competition in local paper, City Vision from January 11 to 13. This is followed up by a road show at the Phillippi Mall between 11am and 4pm on Thursday, January 13. Then, on match-day, Friday January 14, KC Players will pay a visit to the Vodacom Call Centre at Pier Palace between 11am and 1pm, after which they will move on to the Vodashop in Gugulethu Mall, where Amakhosi fans will have the opportunity to chat and take photographs with some of their heroes, while at the same time being informed about the benefits of RICA and MPESA.
