FORGOTEN Alexandra Stadium will come to live when Nine schools take on each other in the national championships of McDonald’s Under-14 Cup on Saturday, September 18.
The venue at the sprawling township of Alexandra, North of Johannesburg which used to attract reporters and massive crowd during Alexandra United’s heydays in the National First Division between 2001 and 2003 has been sidelined by and organisers of big competitions, especially under the SA Football Association or the SA Schools Football Assocition (Sasfa).
The competition which is being played under the umbrella of Sasfa, the custodians of schools football will be played in a round-robin format on Saturday with the semi finals and the final match taking place on Sunday, September 19.
Mamelodi Sundowns’ Lebogang “Cheese-Boy” Mokoena’s former school, Johannesburg Secondary School will represent the province of Gauteng in this championships.
Other schools which are likely to rise to the occasions in this competition include Okiep Primary and Osizweni Primary from the Northern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal respectively.
The rest of the participating schools are: Mhalamhala from Limpopo, Manyano (Western Cape), Mzimvubu (Eastern Cape), Kgothatso (Free State), Mohlahle (Mpumalanga) and Nozizwe (North West)
