By FOCUS REPORTER

NATIONAL Under-17 team, Amajimbos is in camp in Johannesburg ahead of their tour of Argentina where they will three friendly international matches.

The Solly Luvhengo’s coached side leave for South America on Wednesday, September 22 at 9am from the OR Tambo International Airport. The trip is part of a bilateral agreement signed between the South African government and Argentine Government’s departments of Sports and Recreation.

The tour will be used to exchange and share key ideas between the Argentine Football Federation, the South African Football Association (Safa) and the Sports and Recreation Ministry of South Africa. There will also be a one and a half day workshop between the three entities which will provide a platform to discuss youth soccer development.

Amajimbos will hold two training sessions on Tuesday, September 21 at the Kempton Park sports ground. The sessions will be at 9am with the second one at 3.30pm.

In South America the squad will be based in Buenos Aires where they will play three friendly matches. They will face the youth teams of Argentino Junior and Boca Juniors on Saturday, September 25 and Wednesday, September 29 respectively. The last assignment will be a friendly international match against the Argentine Under17 national team to be played on Saturday, October 2.

Luvhengo has since picked 20 players to travel to Argentina and has emphasized that international exposure as his primary aim for the upcoming camp.

“This is a very important outing and a very crucial one as it will aid the further growth and development of this national team. It will help the boys and give them international exposure that is so much needed by our junior national teams so that by the time they get to Bafana Bafana they are used to the rigours of high level competition. This trip is one of many that we have planned for this team after we were knocked out of the African Youth Championship qualifiers so we can aid the boys with their international careers. We can only hope to come back with great results, even though the purpose is mainly to learn as much as we can from our counterparts who have long been on the international scene,” said Luvhengo.
