Amakhosi maintain unbeaten run

A goal in each half from Tefu Mashamaite and Lehlohonolo Majoro saw Kaizer Chiefs extend their unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership to six matches and on top of the standings when the Amakhosi beat Chippa United 2-0 at Soccer City on Saturday night.

From the first whistle the home side dictated play and dominated proceedings, but despite their superiority in the possession stakes they struggled to create any clear cut chances in the opening half hour.

That, however, came to an end in the 36th minute when a superb pass from Reneilwe Letsholonyane saw Bernard Parker through on goal who tried to toe-poke the ball past the keeper, but Kassaly Daouda did brilliantly to shoot off his goalline and smother the ball.

Three minutes later, though, there was nothing the keeper could do as Mashamaite gave the Amakhosi the lead.

Parker produced a pin-point corner-kick which was met by the Chiefs central defender, rising above his marker and powerfully heading the ball into the back of the net, 1-0.

In the 41st minute Parker was in the thick of the action once more as Letsholonyane again played him through on goal. The inform striker, however, wasted the opportunity firing wide of the target from 16-yards out with just the keeper to beat.

The second 45 saw Chiefs start where they left off in the first half as their early second half substitute, Lehlohonolo Majoro, forced Kassaly into a fantastic save in the 52nd minute.

A long ball from Itumeleng Khune found Parker on the right edge of the 18-yard box who then held the ball up before playing it to Majoro 16-yards out. The striker, though, saw his stinging effort well saved by the keeper diving to his right.

Ten minutes later and Mashamaite should really have scored his second goal of the night.

Parker delivered another beautiful corner into the box which Majoro met with his head, forcing Kassaly into a save, but the keeper parried the ball into the path of Mashamaite who headed centimetres wide from eight-yards out.

Finally, Chiefs made their pressure tell in the 59th minute and put the result beyond doubt as Majoro scored his second goal in as many matches coming off the bench.

Tshabalala provided a delicate cross from the right edge of the 18-yard box and Majoro did brilliantly getting ahead of his marker to head the ball home while on the move from ten-yards out, 2-0.

The result means Chiefs remain unbeaten in the league and stay on top of the Absa Premiership standings.
