LIMPOPO Vodacom League log leaders Baroka FC gave their supporters a bonus Christmas present when they defeated arch-rivals Peace Lovers 2-0 at Ngoana Mohube sports ground in GaMphahlele on Saturday.
The victory has assisted Baroka to cement their place at the top of the log with 41 points from 15 matches.
They have won 13 and only drew twice.
Baroka who have already qualified for the last 32 stage of Nedbank Cup are hot favourites to represent Limpopo in the Vodacom League national playoffs next year.
The Khurishi Mphahlele-owned Baroka were runners-up to Peace Lovers in the previous two seasons.
Mphahlele said with 15 matches unbeaten record, the players also will have a good reason to smile all the way to the bank after a superb performance.
“As a token of appreciation to the players for the work well done, they will be paid their bonuses on the 23rd. They have players like soldiers whose country was under attack, they have left no stone unturned. We are confident that they will be promoted to the National First Division next season,” said Mphahlele.
Baroka have assembled one of the strongest squads in the league that also include former Supersports United midfielder Senzo Ndlovu.
The club’s technical director Sello “Skhalo” Chokoe said the boys played according to the technical team’s instructions.
“Although we are happy with the current team, we will have to reinforce the squad with two players from Super Eagle and Mandele Fighters during the January players’ registration window period. We have instructed the boys to follow their training sessions,” said Chokoe.
