SUPERSPORT United coach Stuart Baxter is concerned about the way the club has been conceding some soft goals lately, Writes NAKAMPE LEKWADU
Baxter was speaking during a media briefing held at the Premiers Soccer League offices at Parktown , Jozi ahead of the club’s last 32 match of the Nedbank Cup against relegated Moroka Swallows scheduled for tomorrow evening.
The on and off Matsatsantsa A Pitori travel to Soweto where they face the beleaguered Maswaiswai in match which will decide as to which club will be among 15 others that will go to the hat during the last 16 draw of the competition dubbed Ke Yona Cup. Kick-Off at the Dobsonville Stadium is 7.30pm
“We have been conceding some soft goals, and this is not good for us if we are serious about moving forward as a club. We have to work hard towards that in order to improve our performance as far as the results are concerned,” pointed out the former Kaizer Chiefs mentor.
Baxted added: “The match against Swallows will be treated as a normal one and no special preparations will be necessary, however we need to be cautious as Swallows are equally competent.”
On the other hand Swallows’ Greg Etafia was positive that their off-field problems will not be an excuse to perform to their best in this match.
“Yes we have problems of the field, but that does not mean we will not do our best come match day when we face SuperSport for this cup match,” said Etafia
Asked if the Nedbank Cup will not shift their focus on working toward avoiding relegation, the long-serving Swallows’ former number one goalkeeper said cup match and league match are different ball game all together.
“We will take a game as it come, and tomorrow’s Nedbank Cup match against SuperSport will be given its priority, and so are the league matches,” said Etafia.
Moroka Swallows are currently at the bottom of the National First Division log with 11 points from 2 wins, five draws and 14 defeats.
In another match to be played on the same day at the same time, Jomo Cosmos will be at home at the Olen Park in Potchefstroom up against the visiting AmaZulu.
The draw for the last 16 stage will be conducted on Thursday at the Carleton Centre, Jozi.
