Celtic hammer SuperSport

By Sports Focus Reporter

It was a terrible afternoon for SuperSport United who saw their miserable season continue after they were hammered 5-0 by Bloemfontein Celtic, thanks to a hat-trick from Luyanda Bacela, in an Absa Premiership match at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

It was a nightmare first half for SuperSport as they found themselves trailing by three goals and with only ten men on the pitch going into the half time break.

For Celtic, on the other hand, it was almost the perfect 45 minutes as they dominated the possession stakes and completely outplayed their Tshwane rivals.

The home side was on the attack from the first whistle and almost found the game’s first goal in the fifth minute. Luyanda Bacela came within inches of giving his side the lead when he saw his 12-yard shot skim the wrong side of the upright.

Still, despite that near miss the Phunay Sele Sele only had to wait another three minutes before they did find the back of the net. Mulomowandau Mathoho was the man to find the gaol when he rounded off a good passing movement with a clinical finish from about ten yards out, 1-0.

The goal seemed to give Celtic even more confidence as they continued to push forward and it seemed only a matter of time before they grabbed their second goal.

The goal did eventually come in 25th minute when Danny Venter let fly with a powerful 25-yard shot that found the top left hand corner of the net, 2-0.

Matters then went from bad to worse for SuperSport as they saw themselves reduced to ten men after Shane Poggenpeol was dismissed in the 34th minute for a professional foul on Thokozani Mshengu.

Luyanda Bacela underlined Celtic’s dominance when he scored their third goal in the 39th minute. Again it was a good passing movement which led to Bacela finding some space inside the box before driving a well placed shot home, 3-0.

Things didn’t get any easier for SuperSport in the second half and Celtic really made their one man advantage count as they passed the ball around nicely and always seemed to find players in space.

The 73rd minute saw United go four goals behind when Bacela found his side’s fourth goal after he rounded off another impressive passing movement with a well placed finish from just inside the box, 4-0.

The cherry on the cake for Celtic came in the 84th minute when Bacela found his side’s fifth goal in the game and his third. Bacela was clinical from 12 yards out when he drove the ball past a stranded Rowen Fernandez, 5-0.

The win for Celtic means they extend their unbeaten run to 12 and are still the only league side undefeated at home in the 2010/11 season.
