Certificates for the CAF B Licence coaching course participants

By FOCUS REPORTER

The CAF B Licence Coaching course came to an end yesterday.

This was the second group of participants, following hot on the heels of the first group that finished a week earlier. The week-long course was held at the Lido Hotel, in Eikenhof south of Johannesburg. It was put together by the South African Football Association (SAFA) in conjunction with the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The group was made up of former players like Helman Mkhalele, Dennis Lota, Sipho Khuse, Allan Freese, Ian Gorowa and Patrick Mabedi.

At the end of the course, the participants were handed their certificates by FIFA and CAF instructor Ulrich Mathiot from the Seychelles, SAFA Techical Director Serame Letsoaka, SAFA National Executive Committee member Fanyana Sibanyoni and Conti Kubheka who was an instructor at the course.

“I urge you today that as you head in different directions don’t go hang those certificates on your walls and admire them. You need to go out there and make a difference to your communities now that you have been empowered. Most of you want to start at the top, but you need to begin where it matters most, at the development level so that when you reach the top you have dealt with all the hardships and are able to cope. Sometimes you might have to work without remuneration, just do it and you will be noticed. Offer your services to your local clubs, don’t wait for a big break to come but make good use of the investment you got here. Just remember that we are training you to produce great players for the future, and we are confident this country is going in the right direction in terms of development” said Letsoaka.

His works were echoed by Mathiot.

Receiving those certificates means you can contribute greatly towards the development of football in this country.  Most importantly you took someone’s place who might have made a difference. Efficiency should be seen by the work that you will be doing on the fields across this country,” said Mathiot.

Sibanyoni, who is also the chairperson of the SAFA Technical Director, was impressed with the work over the week.

“You have now been equipped, you have acquired knowledge to tackle the challenges facing our country. This is your opportunity to assist your nation so grab it with open hands and use it wisely. Go out there to represent SAFA and fight for your country to reach greater heights, and we are confident you can do it,” said Sibanyoni.

Mike Mangena, who is a soccer analyst on television was a guest at the course, but was also awarded the certificate. He spoke on behalf of the participants.

“I would like to take this opportunity thank SAFA and CAF for the chance given to us to increase our  knowledge on coaching. We are now more equipped with coaching knowledge than when we first got here, so when I do my analysis on television I will do so from an informed position. After hosting the 2010 FIFA World Cup, this country must not be the same and we need to march on in our quest to be on top, it is courses like these that will lead the way. I have a lot confidence that the coaches that gathered here will go out there and make a world of difference because we have abundance of talent in this country, and the future looks very bright,” said Mangena.

The week-long course normally takes 20 days but was condensed into five days. It covered topics like modern trends in football; physical demands in the game; mental toughness in football and the art of match observation and reading of the game.
