Clapham wins Copa Coca-Cola National Finals

GAUTENG’s Clapham High School were crowned champions of the 2014 COPA Coca-Cola under 15 Football Tournament, after defeating Western Cape’s Robinvale Secondary School 4 – 0 in a thrilling game at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi over this past weekend.

The hosts Silindokuhle High School from Pinetown claimed third spot in the third-fourth playoffs, posting a 3 -2 victory to Free State’s HTS Louis Botha High School.

However the glory belonged to Clapham, as they had captured the hearts of the fans by displaying skilful and impressive moves and scoring abilities.

Clapham High School is an academy that belongs to Premier Soccer League side, Mamelodi Sundowns. The team was coached by former Sundowns stars, such as, Isaac

Shai and Godfrey Sapula.

Clapham had a comfortable journey towards the finals, easily brushing aside Sikhulule 3-0, beating Silindokuhle 1-0, thrashing Sikhulule 4-0 once again and defeating Benny Sports Academy 1 – 0. The High School secured a spot in the finals by walloping HTS Louis Botha 5-1 to meet against Robinvale.

Notha Ngcobo bagged himself a brace before Modise Malebogo and Buhle Mfodololo added their names on the score sheet to ensure that the Tshwane based school wrapped up their three-day tournament in an emphatic fashion.

The winner were domineering in the awards section, with Shai scooping the coach of the tournament , Khulekani Kubheka taking home the goalkeeper of the series and Notho Ngcobo being awarded the player of the tournament.

Former Bafana Bafana winger Helman “Midnight Express” Mkhalele along with ex-Moroka Swallows duo consisting of Calvin Petersen and Noel “Phinda Mzala” Cousin were the tournament’s scouts. The trio spoke about the immaculate talent displayed by the participating schools.

Fetsi Mbele, Coca-Cola Marketing Assets, congratulated the winning team for their seamless display of team work and was delighted to see how the tournament unfolded.
