Coach Luvhengo builds new U17 squad

NATIONAL Under-17 teach coach, Solly Luvhengo, has called up 24 players to start rebuilding a new Amajimbos team. This is because the previous squad does not qualify anymore for this age group. Luvhengo has selected players born in 1996 and is looking to these players to form the foundation for his team.

The week-long camp starts on Valentine’s Day (today) and will finish on Saturday at Seshego Stadium outside Polokwane in Limpopo.

The idea of the camp is to introduce the players to the national team setup and Luvhengo’s coaching philosophy.

“I have put this training camp together to get players accustomed to our style of play and to prepare them to face different oppositions. I have gone around the country to various regions and managed to come up with the 24 players, now I would like to see how they work together. The squad will be put to a stiff test when we play against two clubs from the Capricorn Region where we will be holding our camp. These practice matches will determine how much talent we have to work with leading up to the 2012 African Youth Championship qualifiers,” said Luvhengo.

The coach added that this will be the first of many gatherings for his side.

“In the next training camp in March this year we will call up players that have  shown potential in this current trial period;  I will add with some more players to have about 30 players in total so as to broaden the pool. This will also help me build a strong team. The side should be ready after that camp, and the team will be tested in a Four Nations tournament to be held in April. So these camps are crucial; I will use them to also get the team mentally prepared as we seem to lose form when we play away games. We need to get the team used to the harsh conditions we experience in other countries,” added Luvhengo.

The team will train daily from 10am-12 mid-day and again from 4-6pm in Seshego
