SUPERSPORT United and Jomo Cosmos became the last two clubs to book their places in the Nedbank Cup last 16 after beating Moroka Swallows and AmaZulu respectively on Tuesday night.
SuperSport edged out First Division Swallows 1-0 in a tight game at Dobsonville, Jeremy Brockie’s goal on 52 minutes the difference.
Cosmos meawhile needed a penalty shoot-out to beat NFD team AmaZulu 3-2 on spot kicks, after the game had ended 1-1 after 90 and 120 minutes, Denver Mukamba having given Ezenkosi a first half lead, only for Allan Mukuka to level the game on 72 minutes.
Saturday 5 March:
Orlando Pirates 2 – 0 Kaizer Chiefs
Tendai Ndoro scored the brace that would help the Buccaneers secure a 2-0 win against the old foe at the FNB Stadium. Both goals were scored in the second half.
EC Bees FC 1 – 2 Magesi FC
The Limpopo side emerged triumphant over the Eastern Cape team in an all-Second Division showdown. Sakhele Nhlabathi and Wonderboy Makhubo struck for the Limpopo team, George Gawe netting for EC Bees.
Ajax Cape Town 1 – 2 Free State Stars
Nhlanhla Vilakazi scored the opener for the visitors, just one minute before halftime. However, the Urban Warriors equalized in the 45th minute, thanks to a Justice Chabalala own goal. Ayanda Nkosi secured the result for Free Stars in the 65th minute.
Golden Arrows 2 – 1 Milford FC
Ryan Chapman and Kuda Mahachi secured the result for Arrows at the King Zwelithini Stadium. The latter converted a penalty in the 66th minute. Siyabonga Vilane responded for the visitors shortly after, but it was the proverbial case of too little too late for Milford.
University of Pretoria 5 – 0 Polokwane City Rovers
Getaneh Kebede, Atusaye Nyondo, Sibusiso Mthethwa, Vuyisile Ntombayithethi and Thabo Nemukondeni all contributed to this one-sided goal-fest, at the Tuks Stadium. Rovers had no response.
Sunday 6 March:
United Rovers 0 – 7 Black Aces
Lehlohonolo Nonyane, Aubrey Ngoma (two goals), Bongolethu Jayiya (three goals) and Mukuka Mulenga) set the GWK Stadium alight on Sunday. United Rovers had no response.
Sibanye Golden Stars 0 – 4 Mbombela United
The on-form NFD side proved too strong for KZN Second Division team. Goal from Bongani Ndhlovu, Isaac Nana (2) and Phetolo Sekome saw Mbombela through to victory.
Highlands Park 0 – 1 Mamelodi Sundowns
A 96th minute goal from Keagan Dolly was all that separated the Absa Premiership team from the home team in this dramatic encounter.
Chippa United 2 – 3 Baroka FC
Kenoshi Motshegwa and Loyiso Simandla established a 2-0 lead for the visitors at the Buffalo City Stadium. Andile Mbenyane drew one back for Chippa before the half-time intermission. However, Motshegwa extended Baroka’s lead in the second stanza, before Rhulani Manzini scored Chippa United’s consolation goal in the 63rd minute.
Polokwane City 2 – 0 African All Stars
Puleng Tlolane scored the brace that secured the victory for the home team. Both goals were scored in the first stanza at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
In the two remaining fixtures at this stage of the tournament, Moroka Swallows will host SuperSport United at the Dobsonville Stadium, while Jomo Cosmos take on AmaZulu at Potchefstroom. Both matches will be contested on Tuesday.
Friday 4 March:
Steenberg United (4) 1 – 1 (5) Platinum Stars
With both teams failing to breach each other’s defences during the first 90 minutes, Eleazar Rodgers and Robin Rhode scored goals in extra time. Platinum Stars emerged unscathed during a dramatic penalty shoot-out which saw all but one of the spot kicks converted.
Bidvest Wits 1 – 0 Bloemfontein Celtic
A 25th minute goal from James Keene was all that separated the Clever Boys from Siwelele at the Bidvest Stadium.
Wednesday, 2 March
Before the weekend, two matches were completed on Wednesday night, when Maritzburg United beat Black Leopards 3-1 at the Harry Gwala Stadium, while Santos secured a 1-0 win against Mthatha Bucks at the Athlone Stadium.
Kurt Lentjies (two goals) and Bandile Shandu scored for United, while Roggert Nyundu snatched one back for Leopards.
Iqraam Rayners netted the solitary goal in Santos’ win.-www.psl.co.za
