Dikwena and Matsatsantsa through to Ke Yona's quarters

PLATINUM Stars and SuperSport United have confirmed their place in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup.

This after the two sides brushed aside Black Leopards and Vasco da Gama as they beat them 2-0 and 2-1 respectively in the last 16 matches of the competition played in Polokwane and Cape Town last night.

Dikwena as Platinum Stars are fondly known easily walked all over Lidoda Duvha in the match that was played at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Limpopo’s capital city, Polokwane with Tintswalo Tshabalala and Henrico Botes scoring in each half to eject this competition’s 2011 finalist out.

In Cape Town’s Athlone Stadium, the competition’s defending champions, SuperSport United suffered some early night-mares when Vasco da Gama draw blood as early as the 19th minutes through Robbie Santo, however it was not meant to be as Matsatsantsa A Pitori levelled the matters 15 minutes later via Mark Haskins before Thabiso Nkwana could sealed the Tshwane-based side’s victory in the 81st minute that guaranteed them a place in the quarter-finals.

The last 16 matches continued tomorrow with Mamelodi Sundowns taking on Golden Arrows at Loftus Stadium at 8pm.

Saturday, March 16: Jomo Cosmos v United (Makhulong, 3pm), Free State Stars v Bloemfontein Celtic (Charles Mopeli, 3pm), Kaizer Chiefs v Polokwane City (Moses Mabhida, 8.30pm)

Sunday, March 17: African Warriors v Maluti FET Collge (Charles Mopeli, 3pm) and Tembu Royals v Maritzburg United (Mthatha, 3pm)
