MARITZBURG United and Mamelodi Sundowns will both be targeting their first Absa Premiership wins of the year when they meet at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Friday, 15 February 2013, kick-off at 20h00.
Maritzburg’s first league match of 2013 ended in a goalless stalemate away to provincial rivals AmaZulu on Tuesday.
The KwaZulu-Natal team will be looking to improve on a home record which has seen them win just two of nine matches so far this season.
The Team of Choice are placed fifth on the Absa Premiership log with 25 points from 17 matches.
Sundowns’ first competitive fixture of 2013 was also a goalless draw, as they were held at home by Kaizer Chiefs.
The Tshwane side will be looking to improve on an away record which has seen them win just two of nine matches on the road.
The Brazilians are placed 11th on the Absa Premiership log with 19 points from 17 matches.
In head-to-head stats, Maritzburg and Sundowns have met in 13 league matches since 2005/06.
The Brazilians have traditionally dominated the encounter, claiming 10 wins compared to just three for the Team of Choice. There have been no draws.
Maritzburg have won two and lost four from their six previous home matches against ‘Downs.
When the teams met earlier this season, a brace from Buckley helped the Team of Choice to a 2-1 win, their first away victory against the Tshwane giants.
