Engen Santos creates football fan mile

By FOCUS REPORTER

AS it prepares to face Orlando Pirates at Athlone Stadium on May 7, Engen Santos FC will launch a specially created Football fan mile for the people.

Building on the success and festivity of the World Cup fan walk, which united people from all walks of life in the beauty and spirit of the game, The People’s Team has taken the bold step of creating a fan mile which will run between Langa Sports Centre and Athlone Stadium.  Spectators as well as those who just want to come along for the atmosphere, will meet at Langa Sports Centre and make their way to the stadium. Spectators will enjoy a host of entertainment along the way, in the build up to the highly anticipated match against Orlando Pirates.

With strict security manning the fan walk, fans will meet at the Langa Indoor Sports Centre from 12pm and take a walk across the Bhunga Avenue Bridge, continue along the walkway in Loerie Street, turn in Dr Aburahman Avenue, cross over Hickory and Springbok Streets and enter into the Athlone Stadium gates. Fans are urged to purchase their tickets at all Computicket outlets, i.e. Shoprite Checkers before the match as there will be no tickets on sale at the stadium. The match kicks off at 3pm.

Engen Santos FC Chairman, Goolam Allie says: “We encourage Capetonians to come out and enjoy the day with us.  There will be great entertainment and plenty of security added to the magic of energetic soccer, an occasion not to be missed”.

With the Buccaneers vying for the title this season and the People’s Team looking to secure its place in the top eight of the ABSA Premier League, nothing can dampen the spirits of neither the team nor its supporters. The spectacle of some excellent football aside, Santos together with its partner Engen, will play host to the sexy and sassy La Vuvuzela, who will entertain with their crowd pleasing music.

Engen Santos faces the current league leaders in their second last match of the season but Engen Santos, buoyed with strong local support, a strong starting 11 and the air of festivity and occasion created by the fan mile, may well please its fans with a win at Athlone.
