THE Absa Premiership’s 2014/15 season kicked off on a low note with only 12 goals scored from eight
matches played at different venues across the country.
While other clubs were struggling to score more than two goals, it was the newly promoted Chippa United
who were outstanding, beating Platinum Stars 2-0 at their new-found home-Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium
in Port Elizabeth on Saturday evening.
The other club which managed to score two goals was Moroka Swallows who took Orlando Pirates with a
2-1 victory in what is known as the Original Soweto derby played at the Dobsonville Stadium yesterday
In Atteridgeville’s Lucas Moripe Stadium, SuperSport United started the season on a sour note after they
lost 1-0 to the visiting BidVest Wits with Kaizer Chiefs grabbing an away 1-0 victory over Free State Stars
while Polokwane City registered a comfortable 1-0 win over the visiting Pretoria University at the Peter
Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
Two matches ended in a draws with Mamelodi Sundowns and Maritzburg United settling for a point each
after 1-1 draw while AmaZulu and Ajax Cape Town shared a spoil after a goalless draw.
The league matches continues this coming Tuesday with two matches taking place that will see
SuperSport United welcoming Chippa United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium while BidVest Wits entertain the
wounded University of Pretoria at the BidVest Stadium.
The show will continue on Wednesday, August 13 with six more matches taking place and the fixtures are
Moroka Swallows v AmaZulu (Dobsonville), Ajax Cape Town v Mamelodi Sundowns (Cape Town Stadium),
Platinum Stars v Free State Stars (Royal Bafokeng), Bloemfontein Celtic v Orlando Pirates (Free State
Stadium), Black Aces v Kaizer Chiefs (Mbombela), Maritzburg United v Polokwane City (Harry Gwala). Kick-
Off for all these matches is at 7.30pm
