Media and high profile celebrities in Johannesburg, including Sonya Booth, Thami Mngqolo, and Kgomotso Christopher attend the launch of the innovative Hyundai iXpress Roadshow, featuring their stunning signature iRange of vehicles, the i10, i20, i30, and the 2011 Wesbank / SAGMJ Car of the Year Finalists, the iX35 and Sonata.
Guests enjoyed an authentic afternoon at Nambitha’s restaurant on the trendy Vilakazi Street in Soweto, where they were given a chance to eye out Hyundai’s new range of vehicles while being entertained with the latest tunes from hot new local DJ talent, Mechanix of House. They were also encouraged to show off their talents on stage in a 30 second ‘Xpression Session’, with Isidingo actor Sisa Henys walking away the winner of a brand new iPod Touch as he wooed the crowd with a Johannesburg rendition of Alicia Keyes “New York”.
Guests were then whisked to FNB Stadium to watch Kaiser Chiefs and Orlando Pirates thrash it out at the famous Soweto Derby.
Sonya Booth, looking stunning in a trendy vest and skinny jeans commented on the event, saying, “I am very excited to be part of such an innovative launch. Hyundai makes very beautiful cars, I’m especially in love with the iX35,” while Thami added, “I completely enjoyed the day.”
Alan Ross, CEO of Hyundai South Africa launched the event, speaking in fluent Xhosa for the duration, to the crowd’s sheer delight. He expressed his enthusiasm for hosting a launch in Soweto for the first time, “We couldn’t have thought of a better day to host this event here than on the day of the Soweto Derby – the atmosphere and ‘gees’ on Vilakazi street is unbeatable, reminiscent of the football fever experienced over the World Cup.”
This roadshow will see the entire iRange travel to popular destinations across South Africa, where the public will be encouraged to Xpress their individuality in Xpression Sessions and win iPod Touch’s as prizes for their talent. This will also be supported by a fun, consumer-driven online voting competition on Hyundai’s facebook page, HyundaiSA.
“As one of the fastest growing automotive brands in the world, Hyundai understands the needs of individual vehicle owners around the world. In the iRange, we have created a range of vehicles that was designed for the individual, offering the driver stylish looks, superior drivability, the latest technology and unbeatable affordability”, says Ross. “We are thrilled to be able to showcase our great new product offerings and interact with the consumer during this iXpress Roadshow, and can’t wait to get the show on the road.”
Having proven to be an exciting player in the global automotive industry, Hyundai is maintaining its frontrunner role in their commitment to green energy, with the funky i10 voted the most eco-friendly compact for 2010 in the United Kingdom. The iXpress Roadshow will also be South Africa’s first entirely climate neutral roadshow as Hyundai will offset the carbon used on the roadshow to minimize the impact of the event on the environment.
Not content with being a pioneer in the eco-friendly automotive space, it has also recently been announced that both the iX35 and the Sonata are finalists in the 2011 Wesbank / SAGMJ Car of the Year.
“We’re determined to be the leading car manufacturer in the world, offering our customers the best ranges, superior quality, stylish looks and advanced technology. This roadshow will be the beginning of showcasing our award winning range of vehicles to South Africa,” says Ross.
