Amajuba United Killers take on NW University in the SAFA League Ned bank Cup play-off

Seven teams have been decided to represent the SAFA League in the Last 32 round of the 2011 Nedbank Cup Challenge. Eight teams from the SAFA Leagues will join eight other teams from the National First Division and also the 16 Absa Premiership teams to make the Last 32.

The remaining eighth spot from the SAFA League will be decided between Amajuba United Killers FC of KwaZulu Natal and North West University who will battle it out after the two were drawn against each other in Johannesburg on Friday, January 21. The two teams will meet on a date and a neutral venue that is still to be decided.

Amajuba Public Relations Officer, Mbuyiseni Nkosi is not fazed at the thought of meeting the University side for a place in this prestigious tournament.

“It’s a very good draw, I am not even going to worry about them all we need is to concentrate on our team and go play the match. It would have been wonderful to move into the last 32 without kicking a ball but we know the rules so we are not even going to think about that. It’s the first time we get to this stage of the competition and we don’t know much about our opponents but we will go out there and do our best,” said Nkosi.

Northwest University also presented a brave face ahead of their clash with Amajuba.

“I must say the draw was fairly good, we don’t know much about the other teams in the draw so we expected anything. Football is a funny and dynamic game and you can’t really tell the outcome until the final whistle, but we are confident and believe our boys will do what is required of them to advance to the last 32 and put our side on the football map,” said Kegoikantse “Machesa” Kgomo, the team liaison officer of the North West side.

The seven teams that will represent SAFA are Real Madrid FC (Northern Cape); Supersport United (Gauteng); BTX Liverpool (Free State); Mighty Mega Force FC (Mpumalanga); Chippa United (Western Cape); Baroka FC (Limpopo) and one between Future Tigers and Tornado FC from the Eastern Cape who are still locked in a dispute.

According to the PSL, the draw for the last 32 will be conducted on Monday, 14 February 2011 while the first round matches will be played on the first weekend of March this year. The Nedbank Cup is played in the format of the FA Cup in England where amateur teams take on big sides in the league.
