Krol and Musona clinch Coach and Player of the Month awards

By FOCUS REPORTER

Orlando Pirates coach Ruud Krol and Knowledge Musona of Kaizer Chiefs have emerged as the two big winners as the respective Absa Premiership Coach of the Month and Absa Premiership Player of the month for the December and January period.

The announcement was made at the Premier Soccer League offices in Parktown.

Although the two Soweto giants walked away eventual winners, the competition was stiff and the judges had a difficult task before deciding on the eventual winners.

Krol, a member of the legendary Dutch side of the 70’s, was run close by another Dutchman, Foppe de Haan of Ajax Cape Town, while Boebie Solomons of Santos completed the shortlist.

In the end Krol took the honours for steering Pirates to the top of the Absa Premiership log after an impressive run which, at one stage, saw the Buccaneers bag an astonishing 20 league points from a possible 24. During this period Pirates won six matches and drew two and remained unbeaten.

“Krol showed supreme tactical acumen. It was most evident in the 3-2 comeback over Wits in which his substitutions proved pivotal. He must be credited with being at the heart of Pirates’ new lease of life”, was one of the judges’ comments regarding Krol.

De Haan was hailed for leading Ajax Cape Town’s charge and making them a serious contender to lift the Absa Premiership title.

Boebie Solomons’ efforts with Santos also impressed the judges as he led the team through an unbeaten streak during the judging period. One judge added: “ Under Boebie, Santos has become one of the most difficult sides to beat. Santos can really make things difficult for the opposition.”

Knowledge Musona got the nod as the Absa Premiership Player of the month after scoring some crucial goals for  Amakosi during the voting period. His efforts in front of goal have kept Chiefs in the title race and he has shown a knack of scoring crucial goals when it matters. He most notably rescued a point for Chiefs in Bloemfontein when a goal in injury time gave them a share of the spoils. His goal ratio in December was equally impressive and he kept on scoring vital goals.

“He is a true predator in front of goal, but he has also set up a number of goals for his teammates. He has become a real team player and that should be truly celebrated”, said one of the judging panel.
