League title race drags on as Chiefs, Dikwena battle against opponents

TODAY could be the:”Judgement Day.” For the Absa Premiership’s destination when both pace-setters, Kaizer Chiefs and second place Platinum Stars take on different opponents in a do or die league matches.

Chiefs who are on top of the log with 56 points, six ahead of Stars take on relegation threatened Ajax Cape Town in what is expected to be more than a game. Kick-Off at the Cape Town Stadium is 5pm.

The mighty Amakhosi are equally desperate for victory in this match to seal their title dream a reality while the Urban Warriors are also desperate for victory as well to enhance their chances of moving away from relegation

With Chippa United’s 1-0 surprise victory over title chasers, Orlando Pirates last night at the Orlando Stadium, it is evident that Chiefs will be very cautious in today’s match against Ajax (15th on the log with 23 points) as the results might go either way.

On the other hand Platinum Stars are expected to fight tooth and nail at home when they welcome un-predictable and wounded Maritzburg United at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium.

Victory tonight and hoping that Chiefs will lose against Ajax could see Dikwena (second with 50 points) moved closer to the title on the second position with 53 points, and three points behind the Naturena-based side.

In another match, Black Leopards will need double their effort to beat AmaZulu whom they play away this evening if they seriously need to see themselves still campaigning in the top flight.

The match at Princess Magogo Stadium starts at 7.30pm and Leopards (16th position with 23 points)need nothing other than victory to enhance their chances of staying afloat in the elite league after their 3-1 home defeat by the University of Pretoria last weekend.

The rest of today’s league fixtures are: University of Pretoria v BidVest Wits (Tuks Stadium, 7.30pm), Moroka Swallows v Golden Arrows (Dobsonville Stadium, 7.30pm) and Bloemfontein Celtic v SuperSport United.
