FORMER Dynamos coach Raymond “Hei wena” Mdaka is confident that the Limpopo provincial under-17 team’s four-day camp that started on Thursday, December 2 will sharpen them for the national tournament.
Mdaka who won the national title in 2006 during the national championships which were held in Rustenburg’s Olympia Park, North West said he was confident that he will be able to try different approaches and strategies in the four-day camp in Polokwane.
Ironically, the team from Limpopo failed to impressed a year after winning the tournament in 2006, finishing last after their players were reduced to a mere eight in number, owing to the fact that they were improperly registered.
“I believe that the camp will give the boys time to know each other’s style of play. They will also learn to play as a unit than individuals,” said Mdaka.
The Safa u-17 Championships will be staged in Johannesburg from Tuesday December 7-12.
The opening match will be played at the Safa Development Centre in Klipspruit, Soweto while the semi-finals and final will be hosted at Eldorado Park Stadium.
The main focus will be on defending champions South African Schools Football Association (Sasfa) and last year’s runners-up KwaZulu Natal.
Limpopo are in Group B with Mpumalanga, KwaZulu-Natal, Northern Cape, and North West, and their opening match will be on Tuesday, December 7 against North West at 11.30pm
