The building momentum of Magnificent Fridays is reaching fever pitch, and fellow South African’s are coming to the party, be it athletes or ordinary folks!
The campaign which is the brainchild of the strong-talking Fikile Mbalula, National Sport Minister and his department has been well received by all and sundry and judging by its popularity, it remains to be seen whether our national sporting teams will come to the party.
Its objective is to garner support for national teams as they prepare for their respective World Cup tournaments this year.
In Western Cape tomorrow, Mbalula, and Paul Mashatile -Arts and Culture Minister and Premier Helen Zille will be in full force clad in their green and gold attire to get everyone rally behind the national teams.
It begins at Forecourt Train Station from 6am to 9am.
Already the Protea’s left on Tuesday for India for the 2011 Cricket World beginning in a week, and Netball in July.
Trust and faith has been entrusted upon our Bokke side to defend the Webb Ellis Cup in New Zealand later in September, when they kick-off their rugby WC campaign having won it in 2007 against England in France.
Recently, Mbalula promised South African’s that there will be ‘razzmatazz’ whenever our national teams do us proud in their respective fields.
“When SA team(s) does us proud, we will fly the flag in their honour. By so doing, we will be encouraging other sporting codes to perform well within their reach.
That on its own is patriotism, and SA is a patriotic state, not a Banana republic.”
Tomorrows ‘razzmatazz’ will be graced by various sporting legends and personalities such as Aaron Mokoena, Miss SA Bokang Montjane, Doctor Khumalo, Phil Masinga, John Mametsa, Dj Zinhle and others from entertainment industry.
