Bidvest Wits captain Tefu Mashamaite hoped to face a PSL team for the Nedbank Cup last-16 round, and the defending Nedbank champs will now face Kaizer Chiefs.
“I’d like for us to play a PSL team and not a side from the lower divisions. Those smaller teams give you a tough time,” he chuckled.
“Not that a PSL team won’t give us a tough time, but we know what to expect. Playing Chiefs is always good. They’re a big team with a strong following and we will be tested.”
Bidvest beat AmaZulu 3-0 in the final last year which was also the very first match to be played at Soccer City. Mashamaite wants Wits to repeat this fantastic history.
“That was a great occasion for us but i think it would be great to retain the trophy. The players are psyched up to do this and we have the quality and experience to do this,” the defender said
In another interesting fixtures, Mpumalanga Black Aces were drawn against rivals, Witbank Spurs with the premiership sides, Orlando Pirates and Moroka Swallows getting an easy draws away to United FC and Baroka FC respectively.
The rest of the last 16 draw: AmaZulu FC v Carara Kicks, Platinum Stars v Vasco Da Gama, Free State Stars v SuperSport United and BTX Liverpool v Black Leopards. Dates and venues will be confirmed on Friday
