Mashego brace earns Birds a point

A goal in each half by Moroka Swallows striker Katlego Mashego was enough to earn his team a point against Lidoda Duvha at Dobsonville Stadium on Saturday evening.

Lidoda Duvha’s goals were scored by Michael Nkambule and Mongezi Bobe.

Katlego Mashego put the home side ahead with a low shot after accepting a pass from Chabangu. Mashego thought he had scored a brace in the 20th minute but his strike was ruled out for offside.

Ashraf Hendricks should have scored in the 34th minute but failed to direct his header from Chabangu’s corner kick after being allowed inches of space by Black Leopards’ defenders.

In one of Black Leopards’ rare first half opportunities, Rodney Ramagalela worked his magic before seeing his ground shot narrowly missing the target in the 39th minute.

Meanwhile Gilbert Mapemba was lucky to get only a yellow card for his two footed tackle on Mahlatsi Maake.

Then Katlego Mashego set up a chance for Dikgang Mabalane but his shot was saved by Postnet Omony.

Two minutes after Mabalane’s missed chance, former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Michael Nkambule put the visitors level after being set up by Rodney Ramagalela.

And just two minutes later Lidoda Duvha were in the lead, following Mongezi Bobe’ spectacular free kick.

Moroka Swallows were in full control in the first half, but Black Leopards looked the better of the two in the second half.

Sensing danger the Birds coach, threw everything into attack introducing David Mathebula, Joseph Makhanya and Mpho Maleka.

In the end it paid off as Katlego Mashego grabbed his second goal, a minute from time, to earn a draw with a stunning volley.
