Matfield to break record as Boks clash with Wales

South African rugby teams’ Victor Matfield is hoping to set a record of 103 international appearances when the home side clash with Wales at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday, November 13.

Along with others chosen to represent the country, the Springboks have also included Lionel Mapoe to join the team ahead of their match with Wales to boost their morale and add to the squad which seems to be on a quest for victories come during its tests.

Springboks head coach, Coach Peter de Villiers has replaced Francois Steyn with Zane Kirchner to play alongside Jean de Villiers. Kirchner at centre while bumping out Adi Jacobs from the players in the reserve.

However, the outspoken Boks mentor has not yet decided who will replace Willem Alberts who suffered a calf strain during their last test with Ireland.

While other players might be fielded during the Wales match, others are being sidelined. Flanker Sam Warburton is amongst those sidelined for the Wales match after a calf muscle injury at the expense of their loss to Australia.  Warburton will be sidelined for up to three weeks, meaning he will miss Wales’ games against South Africa, Fiji and New Zealand.

Other sidelined player include fullback Lee Byrne and regular captain Ryan Jones who were in training but still not a 100% for their upcoming meeting with Wales.

The Springboks are expected to play the following players during their meeting with Wales:

Gio Aplon, Bjorn Basson, Francois Steyn, Jean de Villiers, Bryan Habana, Morne Steyn, Ruan Pienaar; Tendai Mtawarira, Bismarck du Plessis, Jannie du Plessis, Bakkies Botha, Victor Matfield, Deon Stegmann, Juan Smith, Pierre Spies.

REPLACEMENTS: Chiliboy Ralepelle, CJ van der Linde, Flip van der Merwe, Danie Rossouw or Willem Alberts, Francois Hougaard, Zane Kirchner, Patrick Lambie.
