More victories for SA hockey ladies

South African Investec women’s hockey managed to keep their winning streak pattern in order after squashing the Belgians in their second Test in Bloemfontein on Sunday 6 February.

The Investec sponsored SA team secured a hard fought 4-1 win against the world number 17, Belgium.

This is not the first time the Belgians suffer defeat at the hands of the South Africans as they also lost the first leg of the Test when SA beat them 2-1. The SA side has been showing determination since the beginning of the Tests and they are not ready to back down yet.

In an exclusive interview, SA women’s hockey team captain Marcia Marescia told Sports Focus online that they are going to go into the game with a different strategy as they are looking to rectify previous mistakes which occurred in their two played Tests. “We are going to apply different skills and analyse our last games to see where we can improve”, said Marescia.

Winning has kept smiles on the country’s national team but the support turnout disappointed the ladies. “There hasn’t been a lot of support from our country and especially here in Bloemfontein but we have launched our website where we are looking to recruit a lot of supporters and where they can see what we are getting up to” further said the captain.

Belgians can expect the same team as last but sadly legendary Pattie Coetzee won’t be playing because of study commitments.

The third Test match tales place at 4pm on Monday with the fourth and final international scheduled for Tuesday 3pm
