BONGANI Ndulula scored a brace as AmaZulu came from behind to beat Maritzburg United 3-1 in an Absa
Premiership encounter at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday night.
Kurt Lentjies opened the scoring for the hosts from the penalty spot late in the first half but Goodman
Dlamini levelled matters soon after the break before Ndulula added his double.
Usuthu were quicker off the mark and fired the first shot in the 2nd minute when Goodman Dlamini
controlled a clearance just outside the box, but he sliced his volley wide of goal.
The visitors continued to dominate possession but were almost caught by a counter-attack in the 23rd
minute when Frank Sarfo-Gyamfi was put through on right, only to drag his low sot wide of goal.
AmaZulu then tested Shu-aib Walters on two occasions but the United goalkeeper was positioned well to
stop an effort from Ayanda Dlamini in the 35th minute and another from Goodman Dlamini two minutes later.
United then broke away on the stroke of halftime with Ryan De Jongh threading the ball through for
Lentjies on the right, who then brought down by Marc Van Heerden inside the box, resulting in a penalty.
Lentjies dusted himself off to take the resulting spotkick and made no mistake as he place his shot into
the bottom left corner beyond the reach of the diving Philani Zikalala.
Usuthu levelled matters six minutes into the second half when Larry Horaeb broke through on the right
before cutting the ball back for Goodman to bundle home from close range.
Bongolwethu Jayiya then used some good skill to evade his marker just outside the box in the 58th
minute before drilling his shot just over the crossbar.
The end-to-end action continued at the other end in the 66th minute with Goodman shooting straight at
Walters, while Njabulo Manqana failed to keep his shot down moments later.
Usuthu took the lead for the first time in the 70th minute as Ndulula sidefooted home from close range
following some good work from Goodman on the right side of the box.
Three minutes later Jayiya found Michael Morton on the right side of the box but his low shot was saved
The visitors extended their lead in the 76th minute as Ndulula skipped past Johannes on the left side of
the box before firing into the bottom left corner.
Johannes came close to reducing the deficit at the other end six minutes later when a corner found him
unmarked at the far post but his shot was saved by Zikalala.
Usuthu broke forward immediately and substitute Ruzaigh Gamildien tested Walters with a low strike, but
the United goalkeeper was able to gain possession after an initial fumble.
Usuthu were then able to see out the match to move up to seventh place with 31 points from 23 matches,
while United remain in 13th place with 23 points from 21 matches.
