DECEMBER 2 -5 WILL highlight yet another massive and spectacular golfing event on the South African soil.
The Nedbank Golf Challenge dubbed “Millionaire Challenge” will host another extravagant tournament and this promise to be one of the most exciting and entertaining golfing events of all time since its initiative in 1981 as they will be celebrating their 30th anniversary since its commencement.
It will all go down in the usual splendid 18-hole golf course with over 700 metres that was created by golfing legend Gary Player, Gary Player Country Club in Sun City, North West where some of the world’s best golfers will be competing for the first prize money of $2 million.
This year marks 30 years since this twelve man invitational stroke play was founded by Sol Kerzner in 1981 and since then, it has been a success as the world’s high ranked players are always featured in this event.
This year, South Africans will be graced by the presence of the homecoming Louis Oosthuizen who is currently on his was to the United States for the PGA Tour, Robert Allebnby, Anders Hansem, Tim Clark, Ernie Els, Ross Fisher, Retief Goosen, Padraig Harrington, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Eduardo Molinari, Justin Rose and Lee Westwood.
Australia’s Robert Allenby who walked away with the crown in the 2009 Nedbank Golf Challenge will not be part taking although the 2008 leading money winner in the event Ernie Els with winnings of $7,971,000 will grace the crowds with his presence.
With Nedbank being the official sponsor of this wealthy sporting event, the “Millionaire Challenge” will see may other big companies Total Sports, Bulova, Broadlink,Castle lite, Supersport, Avis, Proudly Bidvest, Coca Cola, Boschendal, Range Rover, Nestle, Old Mutual, Oasys Transnet and others coming on board as sponsors.
Besides the big names that will be participating in the competition, there are some very own South Africans celebrities from other sporting codes that will also be part of the tournament’s entertainment plan. Cricket star Shaun Pollock, former soccer star Shaun Bartlet, rugby legend Andre Joubert and Albie Morkel
Not only golf will be the food of the day, there is a hot artist line up for entertainment. South Africa’s very own and only multiplatinum-selling rock band The Parlotones who are currently on tour in the UK and will be perfoming on December 2 at Cabanas Terrace and December 3 at Gary Player Golf Course. Other artists on the line up are: Freshly Grounds, Watershed, Danny Fisher, Prime Circle, Ballyhoo and Mel Botes who will perform on different days and venues.
