NEDBANK Green Dream Team Ladies to provide colour to the Spar Ladies race in Johannesburg.
The Nedbank Running Club plans to green the Ladies Spar race this coming Sunday, October 13 by flooding the field wearing the spectacular Nedbank Green club colours.
Several elite Nedbank Green Dream Team members will compete for a top 10 position and club’s runners are in a good position to challenge Mapaseka Makhanya, last month’s Ladies Spar winner in Pretoria.
Mapaseka romped home in a record 33.37 minutes to win the Pretoria leg of the SPAR Women’s 10km Challenge with Nedbank Green Dream Team athlete and last year’s Grand Prix winner, Rene Kalmer in second in 33.56.
Nedbank Running Club Central Gauteng team mate, Irvette van Zyl (formerly Van Blerk) finished third in 34.21.
Rene Kalmer is improving daily thanks to the tough hills around Wanderers. She is a favorite to take line honors this time after winning the South African 21 kilometer title in East London two weeks ago.
Rutendo Nyahora (Nedbank Running Club Gauteng North) is another runner to watch after finishing fourth at the Pretoria Spar race in 34.32 and winning the Bonitas Ciyu2City 10km. The first four finishers all broke the 34.50 record set by Kalmer in 2011.
The newest member of the Nedbank Green Dream Team, Ethiopia’s Yeshimebet Tadesse Bifa, has a best time of 31 minutes for a 10km and is a favorite for Sunday’s race. Yeshimebet boasts a time of one hour 11 minutes for the 21 kilometer and has broken the 2h30 minute mark on four occasions in a marathon. Her personal best time of 2 hours 26 minutes was set in Seoul.
She will be supported by Ethiopian and Nedbank Green Dream team mate Alemtsehay Hailu Kakissa who boasts a personal best of 73 minutes for a 21 kilometer race.
