THE eagerly-awaited third generation of Fiat’s popular Panda has arrived in South Africa.
The new Panda is available with a 51kW 1.2-litre petrol engine in Pop and Lounge trim levels. The Panda is available in seven body colours with three interior trim options, 14-inch steel and 15-inch alloy wheels, and new features including optional “Blue&Me Tom Tom Live” with Bluetooth incorporating infotainment and navigation functions.
Aesthetically, the new Panda is said to have been designed with the latest trends in mind. Styling, however, has evolved from that seen on its predecessor with the use of more rounded lines and shapes. Slim new front seats also allow passengers seated on the rear bench to enjoy more legroom, Fiat says. The Panda’s traditionally raised gear lever has also made it into the third-generation model.
The five-seater Panda has grown to a length of 3650mm, a width of 1640mm and a height of 1550mm, is said to comfortably seat five and has a boot that expands from 225 litres to 870 litres with the rear seat backs folded forward.
The modular cabin allows for a range of seating configurations, while a number of storage spaces are dotted around the cabin.
Safety equipment on the new Panda includes four airbags, ABS with brake assist, stability control and a hill holder function.
The latest version of Fiat’s Fire engine is equipped with variable valve timing contributing to reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions at 5.2 litres per 100km and 120g/km, respectively.
