At Orlando Stadium.
Orlnado Pirates broke their eight years league title drought after they beat Golden Arrows 2-1 this afternoon to be crowned the 2010/11 champions.
Playing in front of a disappointing crowd at Orlando Stadium, the mighty Buccaneers did not showed any sense of urgency in the earlier minutes, however they picked up the pieces towards the end of the first half.
Pirates broke the ice in the 38th minutes when Bongani Ndulula finished off a cross from Andile Jali who have had a good game on the day, but their joy was short-lived when Collins Mbesuma levelled the matters to make it 1-1 a half time score.
Pirates came back in the second half with the likes of Tlou Segolela, Isaac Chansa, Mark Mayambela and Thulasizwe Mbuyane regularly visiting Arrows’ goal-mouth but lady luck seemed to have deserted them.
Chansa got it right when he slotted home the winning goal in the 84th minute and the news from Cape Town that Ajax Cape Town who were favourites to lift the title were dead-locked to a 2-2 at home with Maritzburg United came as a motivation enough for both Pirates and their fans.
Pirates however can brace themselves for a huge fine after their fans stormed to the picth with excitement after the final whistle, and this despite their club’ spokesperson Mickey Modisane’s plea on several occasions not to do so.
In the other results, Kaizer Chiefs finsihed the season on the third position with 59 points behind Ajax (second with 60 points) after they beat AmaZulu 2-1 away AmaZulu with Moroka Swallows avoiding to play in the relegation play-offs after they beat the already relegated Mpumalanga Black Aces 2-0.
The league’s defending forced an away 1-0 victory over Free State Stars to finish on the seventh position, the position which guarantees them a place in the MTN 8.
The rest of the results are: BidVest Wits 1 v Platinum Stars 1, Mamelodi Sundowns 3 v Bloemfontein Celtic 1 and Vasco da Gama 3 v Santos 1.
