Pirates in a bid to keep title hopes alive at the expense of the limping Sundowns

ORLANDO Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns will both have plenty to play for when they clash at Orlando Stadium for an Absa Premiership match tomorrow, kick-off at 3pm.

Pirates have won just one of their last nine league matches, but they still have a mathematical chance of winning the title. Their last outing was a 1-0 loss at home to Chippa United.

The Soweto side has won just six of their 12 home matches this season, suffering two defeats in the process.

The Buccaneers are placed third on the Absa Premiership log with 49 points from 27 matches.

Sundowns come into the match on the back of two successive wins. In midweek they defeated Black Leopards 5-2 away.

The Tshwane side has recorded four wins, six draws and four defeats in 14 matches on the road this season.

The Brazilians are placed 10th on the Absa Premiership log with 35 points from 28 matches.

In head-to-head stats, Pirates and Sundowns have met in 56 league matches since 1985.

The Brazilians have claimed 23 wins compared to 17 for Bucs, while 16 matches have been drawn.

Pirates have won 10 of their 27 home matches against the Tshwane side down the years, suffering 11 defeats in the process.

When the teams met earlier this season, the Buccaneers claimed a 3-1 away win thanks to goals from Mbuyane, Chinyama and Myeni.
