A case of culpable homicide has been opened against Orlando Pirates reserve goalkeeper, Robert Modiadie for allegedly running over a two-year old boy with his car on Saturday. The accident took place in Protea Glen, Soweto and the boy died instantly.
It is reported that the 29 years old goalkeeper is in a shattered state about the accident and has been in contacted the parents of the killed two years old Ndumiso Malumisa.
Orlando Pirates Spokesperson Mickey Modisane told Sports Focus that the team has distanced itself from the case as it is an individual matter.
“That Modiadie is the member of our club does not necessarily mean we have to be somehow involved in this case. But that does not mean we will not give him a moral support he may need because he is our player,” said Modisane.
In a similar case, Bafana Bafana player Bryce Moon is alleged to have been drunk and driving recklessly when he hit Mavis Ncube in Sandton in June 2009 on his way home from a party to mark the end of the Confederations Cup.
The state decided to reinstate the charges against him after they were provisionally withdrawn in April last year so that police could complete their investigation.
