THE Powerade Performance Stand at the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon Expo will offer a phenomenal experience to all runners competing in the upcoming marathon.
All an athlete needs to round up his or her pre race preparations can be done at the Powerade Performance Stand including five minutes in the Vacusport Lower Body Negative Pressure Device and talks by previous runners and top Sports Scientist, Ross Tucker.
Instant prizes in a scratch card competition can also be won with the ultimate prize being a trip to the London 2012 Olympic Games and a chance to ‘Train like an Olympian’.
Back by popular demand is the Vacusport Lower Body Negative Pressure Device used during the recent Cape Argus Pick ‘n Pay Cycle Tour. Training for a marathon is more challenging and the device is known to optimize and increase physical performance and significantly reduce injuries thereby benefitting marathon athletes.
Sports Scientist and Research Associate at the University of Cape Town, Ross Tucker, knows the course intimately and will be speaking on how to approach different legs of the race. Hydration will be a key topic as this alone can determine an athlete’s success or failure if not approached correctly.
“Powerade is an endurance performance orientated sports drink, and as such everything we do around our sporting assets ties back to a scientific approach to hydration and exercise,” said Craig van Niekerk, Coca-Cola South Africa Marketing Assets Manager. “In the recent cricket tour between South Africa and Sri Lanka we introduced the Powerade Performance Tracker, a system that operates via GPS and monitors player’s speed and heart rate thus enabling him to operate at peak performance. In the Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour and the Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon we have offered the athletes 5 minutes in the Vacusport Lower Body Negative Pressure Device”
From 5 – 10 August 2012 The Powerade Sports Academy will be in operation at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Powerade South Africa is running a number of competitions over the next couple of months offering athletes a chance to attend this experience of a lifetime. One ticket is on offer to Old Mutual Two Oceans Marathon runners.
The lucky winners will meet and train with specialist Olympic Coaches and athletes focusing on skills in 5 different Olympic sports, namely athletics, swimming, football, cycling and basketball.
There will be sessions in each sporting code using techniques to strengthen; condition and help participants become better all round born sportsmen. The academy will deliver experiences and learning’s in technique, fitness, team work, competition, hydration, nutrition and psychology.
“Powerade will specifically educate participants on hydrating correctly which will help optimize performance. There will be both physical and psychological tests carried out throughout the experience to help put these learning’s into perspective,” said van Niekerk.
