The South African cricket team has again been in the spotlight but this time they are more than happy and are enjoying it. This after the Proteas defeated Pakistan to a 57 run and a 3-2 victory in their meeting in the ODI series held in Dubai on Monday, November 8.
Top scorer in the Proteas side, Jacques Kallis scored a stunning 83 to claim the victory by reaching 371 for five while completing a number of 3 for 30 off five overs to bowl the hosts out of the series with just 260. kallis however became the sixth player to score 11 000 runs in a one day international.
Shinning star, Hashim Amla smashed a 62 off just over 47 balls while Kallis and AB de Villiers shared a third wicket partnership of 121 before suffering a middle-order fall down in which they lost three wickets for nine runs. The Proteas used the pitch as a playground while avoiding the hands of some danger batsmen.
Pakistan‘s veteran fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar fought a losing battle as he approved 77 runs off his seven overs. Pakistan may only have themselves to blame for the absence of their star, Zulqarnain Haider. The Pakistanian talent is reported to have left his hotel room without permission the same day of the series and was later spotted somewhere in England.
Despite their loss, the hosts showcased a few of their own game ball through Mohammad Hafeez and Shahzaib Hasan who produced an impressive opening score of 82 off 12.2 overs but their form was brought to a hault by Kallis who was the culprit when Hasan was caught at mid-air before all rounder Younis Khan were forced to be quick in the series.
Both teams are now focused on their two-match test series scheduled for Friday, November 12.
