MADE in Japan but named after an Iranian nomadic people, the Nissan Qashqai has proved its popularity in the motoring combo sector of SUVs, which combine family car and light commercial features. Since its inception in 2007, it has notched sales success of over two million units globally and over 20 000 in South Africa.
The latest Qashqai model, issued in 2014, is keeping the momentum going, thanks to the sleeker look of its second-generation design. The new Nissan Qashqai is of compact hatchback dimensions. With the practicality of a passenger car and the big driving position of an SUV, the Nissan Qashqai has matured into a vehicle which answers customer’s motoring needs. Moreover, the completely new Qashqai is longer, wider, lower and lighter. The vehicle also boasts state-of-the-art technology and increased efficiency in performance.
There are five models, three engines and two gearboxes to choose from. The engines include: 1.2-litre turbo petrol with 85 kW and 190 Nm
1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine with 81 kW and 260 Nm
1.6-litre turbocharged diesel engine with 96 kW and 320 Nm.
Additional fact of curiosity is that the current Qashqais cars are built at the Nissan factory in Sunderland, England and not in Yokohama, Japan
