LIMPOPO’s chance to have the second club in the National First Division went up in smoke after Baroka FC failed to secure a place in this division.
This after Baroka who needed nothing else but victory in their last group match against Roses United played to a 1-1 draw against the Free State based side in a highly tense match played in front of huge crowd at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane yesterday. The Ga-Mphahlele based side finished their group matches with 7 points, two points behind Roses who wrapped their glorious campaign in group matches with 9 points to finish on top of Group A with 9 points.
Back to the match, the home side suffered some early nightmares when Roses stunned them as early as the 19th minutes when Patrick Ngidi slotted home to give the John Tlale’s coached side a 1-0 lead, however Baroka equalized via a well taken penalty by Olaleng Shaku. This after the middle-man had adjudged Roses’ Archie Lekgele to have handled the ball in the danger box in the 29th minutes.
Roses United who have since earned their place in the NFD will face Milano United in the final match TO decide an overall winner of this last edition of the Vodacom League which marks its 14th edition. The final match is scheduled for Seshego Stadium outside Polokwane tomorrow at 3pm. Milano from the Western Cape earned their promotion to the NFD on Wednesday after they beat Soshanguve Shinning Stars to finish on top of Group B.
Meanwhile the Premier Soccer League acting Chief Executive Officer, Cambridge Mokanyane has congratulated the two Vodacom league teams that will play in the National First Division next season.
“It’s certainly a significant moment for any team when they get promoted to a higher division and for both these teams, they are aware that they are only one division away from the Absa Premiership.” said Mokanyane.
“While it is an exciting period for both these teams, we as the league will do our best to induct them on being even more professional in their approach in running the club on and off the field,” continued Mokanyane.
Mokanyane further confirmed that a pre-season induction will be held at the PSL offices with the newly promoted clubs to expose them to all aspects of football administration including finance, security, communications and marketing.
