The South African Investec women’s hockey team has once again defeated the Belgians by an impressive 4-1 win at the University of Free State hockey centre, Bloemfontein yesterday.
Before the match, captain Marcia Marescia told Sports Focus that they are not getting enough support from South Africans but that might have served as a motivation to the team as they performed fairly well in their yesterday’s third Test match defeating the Belgians once again following their two previous victories against the Europeans.
The SA side went into the match with many challenges and one of them was playing without their two key players, the goal scoring machine Pattie Coetzee and forward Kathleen Taylor due to study commitments but the Investec Player of the Match, midfielder Shelley Russell ensured to constantly keep upsetting their opponents and continued to be a threat to them.
Although the Belgians tried everything they could in a bid to retain their dignity, the SA ladies were just too strong and they kept penalties coming in with two of them from Kim Huback.
Today the pair will face each other in their final fourth Test match and the Investec women’s team will go into the match with an advantage against their counterparts, the match will take place at the UFS, Bloemfontein at 3pm.
