THE SA KIDS GOLF organization hosted yet another spectacular “World Qualifying” Golf tournament, for the kids from all around Gauteng and from other parts of South Africa in Bronkhorstspruit on January 22-23.
Participating in this event were 115 kids, all under the age of twelve, showcasing their talent and love for golf in the “World Qualifying” tournament in January. The children that have qualified will be selected to compete in tournaments that will be hosted in Europe and in the USA, representing and flying the South African flag.
The weekend was a spectacular one as the young golfers in the making were totally impressive. Their skills and etiquette was truly amazing, which says a lot for the future of South African golf. The TOP5 winners all received trophies and the selection of the teams will take place over the next month.
The club was initiated in 2004 by parents from all over South Africa. SA Kids Executive Committee members say the organization aims to provide more access to golf courses and golf competitions for young children aged from 5 to 12.
“SA Kids Golf aims to provide competitive tournaments via the local golf clubs. The aim is to expose 2000 kids to Golf in South Africa and give these kids a realization that there can be, fair, competitiveness in an environment of integrity, which will contribute in making these kids upstanding citizens and examples to their peers in their communities”.
The SA Kids Golf is proudly sponsored by Srixon, hosts no fewer than 12 events a year in the Gauteng area at numerous golf courses, to promote golf amongst youngsters. Kids all over the country can enter to participate in these tournaments as there are no severe requirements. “There are no requirements and selection criteria except a brief knowledge of the game and it rules”.
About a hundred kids will be competing and showcasing their talent and love of the game in the upcoming “World Qualifying” tournament later this month. The children that qualify will compete in tournaments that will be hosted in Europe and in the USA.
SA Kids Golf will also receive a boost in February and March when, for the first time outside of Gauteng, under-twelve will be able to register for children specific golf tournaments in Port Elizabeth (PE) and Durban.
The tournaments will take place on February 27 in PE and on March 20 in Durban, and will accommodate for those aged between four and 12 who wish to learn the rules and etiquette surrounding the game of golf while practicing the precision sport. The tournaments will be held at the Port Elizabeth and Mt. Edgecombe golf courses, respectively, and will offer players the opportunity to play nine or 18 holes.
The introduction of two additional provinces to the Gauteng tournament golf calendar follows the decision by non-profit junior-golf-promoting organization SA Kids Golf, formerly known as Little Kids Golf, to expand its reach beyond Gauteng to give young golfers in the rest of South Africa the opportunity to play tournament golf.
Kwazulu-Natal was chosen as one of the launch sites for the national children’s-golf-tournament strategy because it is one of the provinces with the largest number of golfers and golf clubs, while parental support in PE made this a natural destination for a children’s tournament.
