SA's Under-23 team fails to qualify for the London Olympics

SOUTH Africa’s Olympic football qualifying run came to an end last night when Baby Bafana went down 2-0 against Egypt at the CAF Under-23 Championships in Marrakech, Morocco.

The South Africans needed to win against Egypt in their final Group B encounter to keep their Olympic dream alive, but they failed to reach the semifinals.

The top three teams in the competition will qualify automatically for the London Games, while the fourth-placed side will enter a playoff against an Asian opponent.

The SA women’s team, Banyana Banyana, have already booked their place at the Olympics, securing one of two spots available to African nations.-Sapa
