SAFA Referees Review Committee releases findings

THE South African Football Association’s (SAFA) Referees Review Committee has met and adjudicated on a number of cases involving match officials.

The Referees Review Committee concluded the following cases in the following manner:

1.    FREE STATE STARS VS SUPERSPORT UNITED FC
  AUGUST 13

Referee            :    LEBOHANG DANIELS
Assistant Referee 2    :    LUVUYO PUPUMA
Fourth Official        :    BAFANA MOSIA

The goal scored by Free State Stars was legitimate and should not have been disallowed by the Referee. The Referee allowed his decision to be influenced by the Second Assistant Referee (Luvuyo Pupuma) and incorrectly changed his decision. The Fourth Official Bafana Mosia also failed in his duty to render the proper assistance to the referee under the circumstances.

Therefore, Lebohang Daniels is withdrawn from operational duty in the NSL for a three-week period, starting from Monday, October 31 and will resume his duties on Monday, 21 November 2011. Luvuyo Pupuma and Bafana Mosia are also withdrawn from operational duty in the NSL for two weeks from Monday, 31 October to Monday, 14 November 2011. All three will not earn during the suspension.

2.    JOMO COSMOS VS AMAZULU
13 SEPTEMBER 2011

REFEREE    :    ROBERT SMITH

Robert Smith failed in his duty to dismiss a Jomo Cosmos player and was inconsistent in his application of the Laws of the Game during this match.  His conduct was of an unacceptable standard. Smith is withdrawn from operational duty in the PSL for two weeks from Monday, 31 October to Monday, 14 November 2011.  He may be appointed in the NFD during this period.

3.    AJAX CAPE TOWN VS KAIZER CHIEFS
13 SEPTEMBER 2011

REFEREE    :    HARRY LEKITLANE

Harry Lekitlane incorrectly awarded a penalty kick to Ajax Cape Town. Whilst in most cases he correctly identified breaches of the Laws of the Game, it was apparent that he did not apply the correct sanction to the offence committed. Lekitlane is withdrawn from operational duty in the PSL for two weeks from Monday, 31 October to Monday, 14 November 2011.  He may be appointed in the NFD during this period.

4.    FC AK VS  BAY UNITED
27 SEPTEMBER 2011

ASSISSTANT REFEREE    :    STEVENS KHUMALO

Stevens Khumalo arrived late for his match.  The reporting time for matches played under the auspices of the NSL is 90 minutes before kickoff. The action of Khumalo is deemed unprofessional and he is severely reprimanded. Should this type of behaviour recur, he will be withdrawn from operational duty for a period of three weeks.

5.    BIDVEST WITS VS MAMELODI SUNDOWNS (13 SEPTEMBER 2011)
KAIZER CHIEFS VS L. GOLDEN ARROWS (28 SEPTEMBER 2011)

REFEREE    :    ROBERT SITHOLE

Robert Sithole’s performance in the above-mentioned two matches was below par. Cognizance has been taken of the fact that Sithole was removed from the Super 8 Cup Final through no fault of his own, which may have adversely affected his mental state, resulting in poor performances. However, it cannot be used as an excuse and Sithole is severely reprimanded and accordingly informed that a recurrence will not be tolerated.

6.    MATCH COMMISSIONERS

STAN SWART AND KADER DE GOEDE

Both members submitted reports which were below standard and as such have been severely reprimanded. They have also been informed that the quality of their assessments needs to be increased. Messrs. Swart and De Goede are withdrawn from operational duty in the PSL for two weeks starting from Monday, 31 October to Monday, 14 November 2011.  They may be appointed in the NFD during this period.
