Johannesburg can be stressful to a point one would want to escape to a tranquil place to unwind. Sometimes time does not allow us the luxury of travelling too far, and this is when Tintswalo at Waterfall comes in.

The small intimate hotel is situated in the heart of Gauteng, within the Waterfall Country and Equestrian Estate in Kyalami. The luxury boutique hotel offers peace and harmony over and above its luxurious services. The sumptuous cuisine served in the spacious Feedroom restaurant did the trick for me, before I could sample the exquisite surroundings and the eye-catching facilities.

Tintswalo at Waterfall is certainly for a discerning holidaymaker, given the stamp of luxury that goes with everything on offer here – from the God-given spectacular views of the distant Magaliesberg mountains to opulent rooms. There are 16 private suites in total, a small number which bears testimony to the hotel’s exclusivity.

The Five Star lodge is located on 200 hectare estate overlooking a magnificent polo field. All around it’s a kind of serenity which is not commonly found in a busy city. The sound of croaking frogs, chirping birds and wide open spaces give the impression of a country setting.

Tintswalo at Waterfall is strategically positioned, as it is close to Montecasino, Sandton’s Nelson Mandela Square, Woodmead’s shopping experience and OR Tambo International Airport just 35km away. For a businessman or woman on the go, there is free wireless internet connectivity. All you need to do is switch on your laptop computer and voila!

The award-winning establishment officially opened in February 2007. The general manager, Edward Woudberg, is highly experienced in hotel business after stints at Southern Sun North Beach and Elangeni hotels in Durban.

To recap, the Feedroom restaurant, which won Tintswalo at Waterfall a silver medal in Best African Cuisine “Amarula Top 100” awards, wide open the surroundings, high-tech conference centres and plush rooms combine to make this city lodge a place to be. Other features are the lounge, underground wine cellar, sauna and spa, and bar.

Waterfall’s group stable-mates are the Tintswalo Safari Lodge and Tintswalo Atlantic, in the Kruger Park and Cape Town respectively.
