Serero rules the PSL awards

AJAX Cape Town’s Thulani Serero was the big winner last night at the season ending PSL Awards held at Gold Reef City’s, Lyric Theatre.

Serero along with his fellow football peers were honoured at a glittering function that marked the end of a truly remarkable and exciting 2010/2011 PSL Season.

He walked away with the coveted PSL Footballer of the Year Award, the Absa Premiership Player of the Season, Absa Premiership Players Player of the Season as well as the Absa Red Hot Young Player of the Season awards – total earnings of R600 000.

The other main awards saw Moroka Swallows’ Siyabonga Nomvethe grabbing the MTN8 Player of the Tournament Award, Knowledge Musona annexing the Telkom Knockout Player of the tournament, while Andile Jali was crowned the Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament.

Outgoing PSL CEO, Kjetil Siem, was an extremely proud man as he bid farewell to the South African football family.

“The 2010/2011 season was undoubtedly the highlight of my wonderful stay in South Africa,” Siem said.

“The League has done extremely well in the season following the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the players have certainly raised the bar and the standard of play. We need to build on this and grow the PSL into a more competitive league on the field and a stronger brand off it.”

“Congratulations to all the nominees and winners this evening as you have certainly made us all proud this season,” Siem added.

The PSL Awards, beamed live to millions of viewers on both SABC and SuperSport, lived up to expectations entertaining the audience in the Lyric Theatre as well as fans at home.
