Soweto Derby…please take note about public transport and road closures

Calm before storm…The FNB Stadium in Nasrec where Orlando Pirates will be welcoming Soweto Rivals, Kaizer Chiefs in a league match

Stadium Management SA (SMSA) released the transport and traffic control management plan ahead of the Soweto Derby on Saturday 27 October 2018. SMSA confirmed during a press conference held on 23 October 2018, that spectators should familiarize themselves with the transport and traffic control plans before traveling to the stadium.
The anticipated Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs has been completely sold out.
Rea Vaya and Top 6 Taxi’s will provide the bulk of transport for the match. Busses and taxis will be available to and from the stadium with specific pick-up points detailed below for spectators to take note of.

Rea Vaya will be operating a service to transport spectators to the match from its stations along the Rea Vaya phase 1A and phase 1B route to the FNB Stadium. Spectators will be dropped off and picked up at the Soccer City Rea Vaya Station after the match. Ticket prices are R30.00 for a single trip and R40.00 for a return ticket.

Top 6 Taxi fare will differ depending on distance travelled therefore estimated costs are as follows:

Pick-up and drop off points will be in Parking 4 of the Johannesburg Expo Centre, the taxi pick-ups and return destinations are as follows:

Road closures and vehicle check points will also be in place restricting private vehicles to park in designated parking areas only. Spectators are urged to park only in areas demarcated for public parking and to only follow the instruction of official parking attendants, JMPD traffic officials and uniformed security.

The N17 approach will be open for general public use. This route will be heavily policed. There are either road closures or accreditation checkpoints at the following intersections:
