Free State Stars (0) 1

SUPERSPORT United are the second club to have booked their place in the semifinals of the MTN 8.

This after Matsatsantsa A Pitori stunned Free State Stars with a 2-1 victory in a sided quarterfinal match played at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane this afternoon.

United who came to this match highly motivated after having crowned the champions of the annual Mopani Executive Mayor’s Charity Cup which was played in Giyani in Limpopo a week ago took the game to Ea Lla Koto from the word go, but couldn’t see an early lead.

The Gavin Hunt’s coached side however finally Nathan Paulse who was making his debut for the Tshwane-based side opened the score-board. This after the former Ajax Cape Town star had received a good pass from George Maluleka in the 27th minutes.

Both sides tried their luck with Stars looking for an equalizer while United chasing for the second goal to cement their lead, but with no luck for the remainder of the first half.

United came fuming in the second half with their key men up-front searching for the second goal and it came as no surprise when Franklyn Cale slotted home in the 55th minute, but that did not bother Stars who fought back and reduced the margin to 2-1 via Mzikayise Mashaba in the 64th minute.

Mvula Moeketse could have leveled the matters eight minutes later, but his grounder was fisted into a corner kick by Ronwen Williams.

United has now joined Orlando Pirates who last night beat Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 at the Orlando Stadium.

The other two clubs will be decided tomorrow when Mamelodi Sundowns take on Kaizer Chiefs at the Loftus Stadium with Moroka Swallows welcoming AmaZulu at the Dobsonville Stadium. Both matches start at 3pm.
