Tau launches a new soccer tournament

THE Executive Mayor of Johannesburg Crl. Parks Tau and Chris Vondo MMC for community development in the city of Johannesburg will tomorrow launch the annual soccer tournament, which is called the Mayoral Cup.

The aim of this soccer tournament is to nurture the under 17 soccer outfit with a view of feeding them into the national under 20 and 23 respectively.

The tournament will help discover talent from kids at an early stage, it will also contribute in improving the quality of football in South Africa and produce quality players to play for the national squad in the near future.

Young kids from Soweto will have a platform of showcasing their talent in football, they will get an opportunity to experience being managed under a club and no longer just play in the streets for the fun of it but also to use the opprtunity as a chance to discover football as a career.

The event will be held on the 10 of September 2011 at Cnr Mokoena and Chris Hani Street, Nike Foootball Centre (Known as Simba Stadium), Klipspruit in Soweto.

This was confirmed by the Community Development, Johannesburg Metropolitan Council.
