The NFD kicks-off

VASCO Da Gama routed African Warriors 4-2 at the Wynberg Military base stadium fortress on Sunday afternoon in their first match in the new version of the National First Division.

Vasco captain Keenin Lesch opened the scoring, striker Brent Adonis netted twice and Zeka Karkee added to the impressive tally but conceded that Warriors were more competitive than the score line suggests.

“They fought back and could have forced a draw but they missed a penalty,” said Karkee. “We played our game from the first whistle and went to sleep after going a goal up. But we upped our pace and took the lead again and did not allow them space.”

“Brent was on fire today and hassled them throughout the game, but overall it was a good team performance. They did not make it easy for us and missed a penalty late in the game. We held on though and yeah, it’s a good start.”

Below are the results from the rest of the NFD games. The FC AK versus Bay United match is postponed until further notice.
