Tian Koekemoer' star shines brighter

EVERY once in a while there emerges a diamond in the rough with great promise and potential. One such a precious stone is Tian Koekemoer.

All the way from Tzaneen, Limpopo, Tian Koekemoer started playing cricket at the tender age of four (4) and has flourished into a very talented young player. He was named the 2012 CSA rural cricketer of the year, and says that it was a dream come true.

Tian plays for the Titans club where he thrives on making use of his talents to repay Jesus – who is his motivation – for having gifted him.

Tian, an all-rounder’s biggest achievement late last year was when he finished the 2012 edition of the Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Cricket Week as the Leading Run-scorer (Top Batman) after the Hans Merensky High School in Tzaneen, Limpopo wrapped off the competition with 298 runs.

Despite his team’s poor performance by his team which lost four of their six matches, drawing one while their last match today on Day 5 saw them registered a convincing 3 wicket winner against Griqualand West, Koekmoer rose shoulders high in this tournament and he was also topping the runs in Limpopo’s last match with 64 runs while his team-mates, Landre Coetsee and Markus Koen came close with 60 and 42 runs respectively..

If he didn’t play cricket, Tian would pursue a career in property development – buying and selling property – and he is probably in cloud nine after having achieved his short-term goal by being included in the South Africa’s U19 side which will take part in the 2014 U19 World Cup in Dubai, as well as joining an amateur squad and then going on to play professionally for a franshise team.

Affectionately known as Tinks, Sticks or Koekies, Tian’s motto in life is “Success depends on the second letter” – ‘U ‘ (as ‘you’) – and he says the best thing about cricket is that not only is he able to do what he loves but it also teaches him how to be a gentleman.
